Curcumin is produced by Curcuma longa plants. It possesses
anti-inflammatory properties as a result of inhibition of cyclooxygenases (COX)
and other enzymes involved in inflammation. Acute, short-term inflammation can be
beneficial. Chronic inflammation, however, can be problematic, particularly
when it is involved in attacking the body’s own tissues. All curcumins are not
created equal. BioTE Curcumin SF is the most clinically studied curcumin on the
market with a 29 times greater absorption than ordinary curcumin.
Curcumin enhances the activity of the COMT enzymes, which
helps metabolize estrogen via methylation (the main way gene activity is
adjusted during life) in both men and women. In turn, it protects cells from
DNA damage from improper estrogen metabolism.
Curcumin is associated with decreased risk of the following conditions:
· Heart disease
·
Depression
·
Alzheimer’s disease
·
Cancer risk
·
Arthritis
·
Joint pain and inflammation
·
Altered hormone metabolism
·
Decreased cognitive function
